Short Bio
Mr. Laurent is the Business Education teacher for the 6th - 8th grades. He started teaching in 2000 at Hollywood High School as the Intro Computers teacher, Boys’ Varsity Basketball, Boys’ andGirls’ Track & Field Assistant Coach and Assistant Athletic Director. In 2008 he transferred toBernstein High School to teach Entrepreneurship to 9th-11th grade students and was the Boys’Varsity Assistant coach at LACES (won the 2009 LA City Small School BasketballChampionship). He also taught Marketing, Economics and Entrepreneurship at Los AngelesAcademy of Arts and Enterprise to 7th-8th graders during the 2010-2011 school year. In 2012,he returned to Bernstein as Assistant Athletic Director and the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team.This will be his 2nd year at WLCCMS. “I feel Business Education is an essential part of theeducation process. Students need to be given the tools to better help them maintain control oftheir finances so that they are not accumulating large amounts of debt to the point they areworking just to pay off that debt.”Mr. Laurent is a graduate of Cal State Dominguez Hills, earning a BS degree inBusiness/Marketing. He earned his teaching credential from National University. Mostly recentlyhe graduated from Azusa Pacific University, earning a Master’s of Science in PhysicalEducation with an emphasis in Sport Management. Mr. Laurent has also coached at LosAngeles Southwest College from 2014-2019 as the Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach. He hasalso coached various travel ball teams, including ICAN All-Stars and Team (Lamar) Odom LA,helping over 30 student-athletes receive D1 college scholarships. During that time 6 playershave been drafted or signed contracts with NBA teams including 3 players in the 2011 NBA draft- Derrick Williams (Arizona ‘11, #2 pick Timberwolves), Jordan Hamilton (Texas ‘11, #26th pickNuggets) and Darius Morris (Michigan ‘11, #41st pick LA Lakers).His favorite foods are Gator, Shark, Jambalaya and Gumbo. He loves seeing his studentssucceed and become successful adults.
